Purdue Transfer K Spencer Porath Signs with Notre Dame: A Surprising Move or a Strategic Choice?
A Houdini-like Move for Notre Dame and Marty Biagi
In a surprising turn of events, Purdue kicker Spencer Porath has signed with Notre Dame, and the most intriguing part? He never entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. This move has left many scratching their heads, as it seems like a risky strategy for the Irish. But here's where it gets controversial...
A Kicker's Impressive Performance
Porath, a native of Brownsburg, Indiana, had an outstanding 2025 season as a sophomore. He made 15 out of 17 field goals and all 24 extra points, achieving an incredible 88.2% field goal percentage - the best single season in the history of Purdue football. His long field goal was 53 yards, and he was 4-of-5 from 40-49 yards and 2-of-3 from 50+ yards. In 2024, he went 7-of-11 on field goals and 17-of-17 on extra points.
A Competitive Landscape
Porath will now compete for the starting kicker job with sophomore Erik Schmidt. This move is interesting, as it suggests that Notre Dame is looking for competition and depth in the kicker position. With two years of eligibility remaining, Porath brings fresh talent to the team.
