Men's Volleyball Dominates in Doubleheader Sweep
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team showcased their prowess in a doubleheader sweep against Roberts Wesleyan and Rockhurst on Wednesday at the Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors (5-1) are set to face both teams again in another doubleheader on Friday, with the Rockhurst match at 11:00 a.m. and Roberts Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
Match #2: Hawai'i 3, Rockhurst 0
In the evening match, Hawai'i secured the doubleheader sweep with a commanding 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-13 victory over Rockhurst.
The Warriors' Kristian Titriyski and Adrien Roure combined for 30 kills, with Roure adding five aces and seven digs, and Titriyski contributing six digs and three blocks. Louis Sakanoko also made significant contributions with nine kills and three blocks.
UH's overall performance was impressive, hitting .382 for the match, compared to Rockhurst's .167. The Warriors served a season-high 10 aces and out-blocked the Hawks, 8.5 to 8.0.
Shay Spadaro, Will Sutphen, and Lucan Tran each had eight kills, leading the Hawks (1-3). Setter Nathan Jacques distributed 28 assists, along with three aces, five digs, and three blocks.
The Hawks showed resilience in the first two sets but ultimately fell in the third, hitting .444 in that frame while UH committed six attack errors and hit .250, sending the match to a fourth set.
In the fourth set, Hawai'i took control, hitting .500 and holding the Hawks to -.034.
Match #1: Hawai'i 3, Roberts Wesleyan 0
Earlier in the day, UH secured the opening match of the day-night doubleheader against Roberts Wesleyan, winning in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16.
Kainoa Wade, making his career-high 21 kills, hitting .514 in 35 attempts, led the way. The Kailua, O'ahu native also recorded five digs, two aces, and one block.
Thatcher Fahlbusch made his UH debut, finishing with six kills, one ace, and two digs. Fellow outside hitter Finn Kearney also had a strong performance with six kills in 11 errorless attempts and five digs.
Magnus Hettervik, making his first start as a setter, finished with 22 assists and six digs before being replaced by Victor Lowe, who added 14 assists and directed the offense to a .462 clip in the third set.
Kai Taylor, starting at libero, recorded nine digs, and Ofeck Hazan, the middle blocker, posted five digs and three blocks.
Ryan DeJohn led the Redhawks (2-1) with eight kills and six digs. As a team, Roberts Wesleyan hit .185 with four aces and 4.5 team blocks.
